The Church of Hope is a congregation of the Southwest California Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8)
We live God’s Grace
Our lives are governed by conditions. Pay your mortgage or the bank will take your home. Work extra hours or the boss will fire you. Eat healthy or the doctor will give you a stern lecture.
We have come to expect our relationships are conditional too. We think, “I’m only lovable if I’m thin. If I’m funny. If I earn enough. If I’m smart enough. If I live in the right house.”
The thing is, God’s love is unconditional. God never says, “I’ll only love you if you act this way or behave that way.” No. God chooses us over and over again even when we fail to love each other. God forgives us. God seeks us out. God heals us.
The Church is the only place in the world where you can be accepted just as you are. Clubs have membership conditions. The Church doesn’t. You’re already made in the image of God and Jesus Christ has been raised to life so that we can experience new life as well. God’s love is free and has no conditions attached.
